Something I learned in my early work coaching teachers was that people are often way more likely to identify the things that didn’t go well/as planned than the things they did that went well or were highly successful.
I share this to let you know that you are not alone if you find yourself struggling to move past disappointment or failure.
The thing is, our brains find what we focus on. So if we’re focused on what has gone wrong, we are basically inviting it to make a return appearance. So let’s not. Instead, let’s focus on how to NOT get hung up on our failures so we don’t get stuck there!
Look for the lesson.
Determine the desired next outcome.
Generate reminders of all the things you HAVE done well and all the times you have succeeded. (Bonus points if you start doing this PROACTIVELY before it’s “needed.”)
Replace your ruminating thoughts of failure with ones that are more supportive.
Seek help if you feel like you can’t be your own cheerleader.
