I’ve always thought of myself as a driven person, yet procrastination is definitely something I struggle with! You see, I tend to want to do SO many things that it can be overwhelming. Add to that the fact that asking for support has not always been my default, and it can be easy to get overcome with everything I want to do. And when I’m not prepared for it? Procrastination often becomes an unintentional go-to! Whether it’s binge-watching Netflix, scrolling through social media, or just getting caught up in thoughts about all that there is to do, it’s easy to get off-course of I’m not careful.
In fact, I think one of the biggest obstacles to achieving the things we want in our lives is our own procrastination. One of the reasons that procrastination can be such a big problem is that we let it derail us from the things we really want to focus on. And while I believe the BEST way to address this is to invest the time to dig into the cause in order to shift our thinking, there are a couple things you can do right now to help prevent it!
First, you need to plan time for FUN! If you feel like all you do is work toward your goals, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. Deciding it’s just “too much” can become an invitation to procrastination or doing nothing. Second, find ways to reward yourself for the PROGRESS you are making along the way! Working on a project? Reward yourself for taking steps toward its completion. Or, reward yourself for showing up with consistency to nurture what’s most important. Ultimately, the key to avoiding procrastination is to focus on how you’re showing up...not just for the tasks at hand but also for yourself and how you want to show up in the world!
